How to Actually Block TikTok on iPhone and Android (Without Cheating)

Why built-in Screen Time and Digital Wellbeing limits are easy to skip, and how to set up a TikTok block with real friction on iPhone and Android.

Why the built-in limits fail

iPhone Screen Time and Android Digital Wellbeing both let you set an app timer for TikTok. When the timer runs out, you see a gray screen with an option to ignore the limit or extend it. That option is the problem: the decision to keep scrolling is made in the exact moment your willpower is lowest.

A block works when breaking it costs more effort than the craving is worth. One tap costs almost nothing.

Blocking TikTok on iPhone

Start with what Apple gives you, then add friction on top.

  • Open Settings → Screen Time → App Limits → Add Limit, and choose TikTok.
  • Set a Screen Time passcode and ask someone else to choose it, so you cannot approve extra time yourself.
  • Use a focus app built on Apple's Screen Time framework, such as focuss, to shield TikTok during timed sessions that cannot be cancelled with one tap.

Blocking TikTok on Android

Android's tools differ by manufacturer, but the pattern is the same.

  • Open Settings → Digital Wellbeing → Dashboard, choose TikTok and set an app timer.
  • Turn on Focus mode and add TikTok to the distracting apps list.
  • For a stricter block, use an app that shows a shield screen whenever TikTok opens and requires a cooldown before unlocking.

Add friction that survives a craving

Cravings usually pass within a few minutes. The goal is not to make TikTok impossible forever; it is to put enough time and effort between the urge and the scroll that the urge fades first.

  • A cooldown delay: wait 15 minutes before an unlock takes effect.
  • A typing challenge: type a long sentence exactly before unlocking.
  • Accountability: a friend must approve your request.
  • A daily allowance: one hour of TikTok, then a cooldown with at most one deliberate extension.

Keep it safe

Never block your phone, messages, maps or emergency calls. A good blocker shields only the apps you choose and leaves essentials available at all times.

Reclaim your focus with focuss

Shield the apps that pull you in. Calls, messages and maps stay open.
